Report on the progress of the ‘Portage’ project in Elatma

Diema's Dream Charitable Foundation > We have helped > Report on the progress of the ‘Portage’ project in Elatma

elena Tuesday October 10th, 2017 We have helped, News

In September, Elatomsky orphanage held 294 therapy sessions with bedridden children. Social adaptation and rehabilitation work, as a part of our project “Let’s change the life of children with disabilities”, was carried out by four specialists. They had been working with fourteen children and, due to the daily individual and carefully planned help of the adults, the children acquired fourteen new skills by the end of the month!

Three of the skills were mastered by Kolya Suchkov! In the period from April to now, the boy was able to develop both: fine motor and communication skills. In addition, specialists  were doing their best, so that the child could have become more independent in life. Kolya has achieved success almost in everything. He began to sit in a pear-chair, holding his head for 5 minutes, which pleased us a immensely in comparison to how he was before! From the first month of therapy the boy was being taught to pull himself up with the help of someone’s fingers and to sit!

All the children were a success. For example,  nine-year-old Polina Laryushkina acquired the ability to draw with a pencil and a pen. The skill of putting up the zipper on her clothes is still in the development stage, however the fact she is even trying is something that makes us all proud. Additionally, Polina knows where her personal chair is in the game room, and once has even put a chair for the tutor opposite to her chair! With her actions and successes, Polina seems to be challenging the doctors who have diagnosed her with Down’s syndrome and major development delays. Hence, which is what the lessons with the tutor are for, to see her hit all these amazing milestones!

Warm September days allowed the children who we work with, to be outdoors and play, sit in a stroller or on a bench, even walk with the help of a specialist who have by now become as close as a mother can be. Such weather is a great opportunity to learn various movements and skills, as well as form close bonds!

Therefore, month after month, the bedridden children’s lives are changing for the better. Thanks to everyone who is involved in this! After all, without the project and all of your constant attention and effort,  the children would have lacked the consistent support of an adult close to them,  their daily walks and the development of the most important everyday skills which most of us take for granted!
