“Portage” teams’ specialists have resumed classes with children after New Year holidays. Now the innovative project “Portage” is being implemented by means of 15 teams of specialists – 9 practicing and 6 pilot. The “Portage” teams operate in the Ryazan Region, Pskov and Pskov Region, Kostroma and Kostroma Region, Arzamas and Moscow.
We are very pleased that despite the pandemic, we managed to revise and adjust the schedules of specialists’ classes with children. After all, some children, that take classes with speech therapists, defectologists and other specialists in accordance with the “Portage” method, were not able to leave their institutions for several months or had to remain at home due to health limitations. And classes bring joy to children and help their development. Through this classes, children are able to continue to master the skills they need in life, such as infant skills, self-care, cognition, movement and others.
“Portage” methods show amazing results even while working with children with the most severe developmental disorders. The team’s specialists note that a child with severe and multiple developmental disorders can have the development level of a 1-4-year-old child, and the results they achieve in the first year using the “Portage” method are all the more striking. Children learn, for example, to eat with a spoon, drink from a cup, zip up, understand the prepositions “over, under, in”, play bingo, distinguish colors, use a pot, and much more. This significantly improves their quality of life.
